Responsibilities:Legal Compliance: Stay updated on the relevant Belgian and European legal and regulatory frameworks impacting the insurance sector. Interpret and apply these laws and regulations to ensure compliance within the organization.
Contract Review and Negotiation: Review and negotiate various contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to insurance policies, partnerships, and vendor agreements, ensuring their alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
Legal Advice and Risk Assessment: Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters, including insurance law, corporate governance, data protection, employment law, and litigation risks. Assess and manage legal risks associated with business operations.
Policy and Procedure Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and update internal policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure legal compliance in areas such as data privacy, anti-money laundering, consumer protection, and claims management.
Regulatory Reporting and Communication: Prepare and submit regulatory reports and filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Serve as a point of contact for regulatory authorities and handle any legal inquiries or investigations.
Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing legal disputes, including coordinating with external legal counsel, representing the organization in negotiations or litigation, and seeking resolution through alternative dispute resolution methods when appropriate.
Legal Research: Conduct legal research to support decision-making, provide guidance on emerging legal issues, and monitor changes in legislation and case law that may impact the insurance industry.
Qualifications:
- Law Degree from a recognized university or law school.
- Admission to the Belgian Bar Association is preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Legal Advisor, preferably within the insurance sector.
- Strong knowledge of Belgian insurance laws, regulations, and industry practices.
- Fluency in Dutch, written and spoken, to effectively communicate and draft legal documents.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
